The five acre parcel on Second Street was originally the site of Lampheer Block Company, which manufactured concrete blocks and other masonry construction materials. The property was abandoned when purchased by the partnership of Wayne & Susan Nichols and Jonathan Rose of New York, a leader in sustainable development. Peter Calthorpe, the internationally recognized urban planner, author and architect, designed the metal buildings with a unique façade of walkways and colored banners to allow affordable rents with engaging architectural style. All construction and working drawings were completed by Communico, Inc., Susan Nichols, President.
The development of Second Street Studios has had a transformative affect on Santa Fe's midtown Second Street neighborhood which has been completely recast from a run-down industrial warehouse area into a vibrant center of small businesses, galleries, restaurants and studios.
